Whether you’re looking for a peaceful retirement or an opportunity to buy your first home, Stittsville could be the place to do it. For this month’s neighbourhood spotlight we’re heading west of the capital to visit the popular growing community of Stittsville.

With over 40,000 residents, Stittsville has become a very family-friendly community, and that is expected to continue with the construction of three new elementary schools and a new secondary school by 2023.

Stittsville isn’t just for families, though. It also has many options for retirees with planned active living adult communities, as seen here and here.

Stittsville Amenities

Stittsville has all the amenities you could want but prides itself on having a village feel where neighbours get to know one another, evidenced by its active Village Association.

Even though Stittsville is within easy reach of Kanata and downtown Ottawa, there’s little you can’t find in the community itself. It has plenty of sports fields, play structures, indoor and outdoor hockey rinks, swimming pools, a library, splash pads, an off-leash dog park, and a wide variety of retail and dining options.

When you’re looking for peace and tranquillity, you can take a nature walk along the trans-Canada trail, which winds its way through Stittsville.

And, if you like a bit more action, the Canadian Tire Centre, a large sports and entertainment venue, is close by.

Stittsville Schools

Neighbourhood schools are always an important consideration for families moving to a new area. With Ottawa’s many school boards and French Immersion programs, finding a school can be confusing.

The interactive map above allows you to restrict your search to a specific school type to make the process a bit easier for you. To use this function, click on the icon found on the top left of the map. A menu will slide out on the left-hand side, and you can scroll through the list and check the box of the schools you’d like to see on the interactive map.

If you’re interested in buying a home in the area, type the address into one of the school locators below to see which schools serve that location.
