A Celebration of Women in Business: Barrhaven BIA’s High Tea Tuesday

Empowering Women Entrepreneurs in Barrhaven

This past Tuesday, I had the pleasure of attending the Women’s Day High Tea, an event hosted by the Barrhaven Business Improvement Area (BIA) to celebrate International Women’s Day and bring together local women business owners and inspiring leaders. The event, spearheaded by Andrea, the Executive Director of the BIA, and Crystal, the marketing lead, was a testament to the strength and camaraderie of women in business in Barrhaven, Ottawa.

A Whimsical Venue: Carmelitos Café in Barrhaven

Set against the enchanting backdrop of Carmelitos Café in Barrhaven, the event was a feast for the senses. From the moment we stepped inside, the atmosphere was nothing short of magical—a perfect fusion of femininity and Alice in Wonderland whimsy. Their beautifully crafted cakes and delicate sandwiches were works of art, making the entire experience feel like stepping into a storybook. If you’re looking for a Barrhaven café with a unique ambiance, Caramelitos Café is a must-visit!

Building Connections Among Women Entrepreneurs

Beyond the delightful treats and elegant setting, what made this event truly special was the genuine connections formed between Barrhaven entrepreneurs and local business leaders. We shared stories, aspirations, and insights, leaving the event inspired and more connected to the incredible network of women shaping Barrhaven’s business community. As someone who champions local businesses in Ottawa, I was thrilled to discover and engage with even more amazing entrepreneurs. Knowing their stories allows me to better share and support their businesses, whether through social media, word-of-mouth, or partnerships.

Local Leaders Supporting Women in Business

A special note of appreciation goes to Jason MacDonald, (Chair of the Barrhaven Business Improvement Area) Wilson Lo, (Councillor, Barrhaven East) and David Hill, (Councillor, Barrhaven West)—the only three men in attendance. Their presence spoke volumes about their commitment to supporting and uplifting women-owned businesses in Barrhaven. Perhaps we should make a lighthearted nod to the fact that they were outnumbered, but there’s no doubt that they are steadfast allies in our community.

The Importance of Women in Business Networking Events

This event was a powerful reminder of the importance of fostering collaboration, mentorship, and celebration within our local business landscape. Networking events in Barrhaven like High Tea Tuesday aren’t just about sipping tea—they’re about raising each other up, sharing knowledge, and strengthening the fabric of Barrhaven’s entrepreneurial spirit. I left feeling energized, motivated, and proud to be part of a community that values and uplifts its local businesses.
